Saturday on the Island 4/13/19

Easy day here...sadly our last full day...and we seem to have adjusted quite well to the 'Go Slow' of the island...

We slept in...then made our way to Paradiso Cafe, (same place we brunched yesterday), because we were craving their sandwiches...me, a BLT and Gwennie, a salami...I'm not sure if it's the combo of being extra hungry, the rolls they serve them on, or the garlic sauce, but man...they are G O O D!

Throw in some fresh watermelon, or orange, juice and find s a t i s f a c t i o n!

So, with full bellies we hit the store for more milk for our coffee and a few things to bring home as gifts..then back to the Sunset Cabana for a little nap and blogtime!

Next, we rented bikes and riding to the dock to take the boat across the 'split' to see the other side!  Made a quick stop for a few more braids...

These are some shots from 'our side' of the split... (courtesy of Gwen!)

We biked over the the Koko King Ferry, locked our bikes and jumped on the boat for a quick ferry ride across 'the split' to Koco King Beach.  Getting off you are greeted and given resort instructions...where to buy drinks, what chairs are free to sit in, cost to sit in lounge chairs (15 Belizean) or shaded bed lounge (50 Belizean)...all to different of a feeling than the other side of the split.

There was a nice classic sand beach with a select swimming area...tubes to lounge in and music filled air. It was fun to swim in the warm tropical water, we grabbed a couple tubes and floated around to the beat.

Definitely worth coming over to see, but once we had a little swim, sun and the required adult beverage for complimentary ferry ride, we made our way back to our side.

It was very festive and resort like, fun to pop into...but we were ready to get back on the ferry for the other side of the split before too long!

This was just another cool, old boat parked where the ferry takes off from....

Once back on land, we unlocked our bikes and headed down the front road past palms and locals who loved to let Gwen know they appreciated how she looked, ha! (She finally got used to it!!)

We decided to give the Animal Shelter another try...We ran into the caretaker who TOTALLY recognized us and said...'Didn't you come by last night???????'  We sheepishly admitted that yes, it was us...and we aplogized again...and he was very nice and a bit apologetic for getting angry at us.  He explained that at night, the stray dogs come to the fence and cause fights through it...so they don't like any traffic after dark.   We made good with him and befor long  Gwen fell hard for a litter of pups there...

Hmmmmm....they DO adopt a lot of pups that fly back with new owners.....hmmmmmm....

It's been hard, facing the fact that it is our last night...man, we LOVE it here..it's SOOOO EASY to fit right in and lose sight of reality.  I do belive we will be back..hopefully with other family...it will be just oo hard to stay away!!

As if by design, we ended our trip as we started it, with our friend Lalo...No Shirt...or Edward as we learned was his real name.

We spend sunset at the split watching a kite surfer from France do his magic...named Baptiste..and a local celeb as well...

It was a special sunset and every  moment was absorbed and appreciated.

We then had the most amazing dinner at Maggie's Sunset Cafe...this is the restaurant right next to ouor BnB...it was very slow, but REAL and most amazingly delicious...we treated Lalo...as a thank you for welcoming us so kindly to the island....

Go slow...we will...and at home we will try to remember what we learned....

But there's one thing I hope we DON'T go slow on...and that is returning to Caye Caulker and Belize!
